Hello and welcome to Northview High School's online Wax Museum! We are so excited to have you here. Advanced Drama is an opportunity for students interested in the performing arts to simulate the environment of a mini theatre company and perform in-school productions for Northview's English students as a part of their curriculum. Wax Museum was started in 2005 by Mr.Paul McClain and Mrs.Elizabeth Lake. It is the first production put on by the Advanced Drama company each school year and lasts a whole school day (around 6 hours). Wax Museum consists of students walking around to frozen 'wax' figures and activating them using a special code; after saying the activation code, the actor unfreezes to perform a captivating monologue and then reverts back to a frozen position. There are about 12 actors who perform an original one-minute-monologue written by fellow classmates around 200 times that day. Because of Covid-19, the Advanced Drama company decided to perform wax museum virtually. You can navigate around the website using the tabs at the top or right corner of your screen. For optimal viewing pleasure, we recommend using a computer or tablet. So please, sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!
WELCOME TO WAX MUSEUM 2020!
our theme this year:
WOMEN'S SUFFRAGE
IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
On August 18th, 1920, the US Constitution granted American women to right to vote, ending over almost a century of protest. In honor of the 100th year anniversary of the 19th amendment, we are excited to announce that our theme this year will reflect all of the most promiment figures throughout the fight for suffrage - big and small. Although many BI-POC contributed to the long fight for suffrage, many restrictions were still placed to prevent BI-POC from voting. It would only be till over 40 years later, that true equality in voting would be achieved. You will be introduced to some characters you recognize like Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Thomas Jefferson. However, we acknowledge that it's important to recognize that because of the time period, many figures were not appreciated for their work for reasons such as the color of their skin, sexuality, and more. As a community that strives to emphasize the importance of diversity from many marginalized communities, we want to provide a resource that compiles work which is inclusive and representative.
In addition to that, we would like to dedicate this show to Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg who constantly strived to advocate for gender equality and women's rights. As part of our wax museum show last year which featured 'gamechangers' around the world, Suraj Singareddy and Shubhangi Khanna performed an original song written by Suraj Singareddy (a current senior) to the tune of Fergalicious about Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ruth Bader Ginsburg and the impact of the work they've done. It was hands down one of the best performences in wax museum history and we hope you take the time to watch their performance! May her memory be a blessing.
